John Amos Comenius /Jan Amos Komenský
He was born in Nivnice on March 28, 1592 and died in Naarden in 1670.
Comenius was a Czech, world famous educational reformer, theologian and the last bishop of the Moravian Church. As one of the Protestant victims of the Thirty Years' War /1618-1648/, he spent most of his life in religious exile.
I.
Comenius believed in rebuilding society in Bohemia through a REFORMED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. In his "Brief Proposal" he recommended full time schooling and teaching children both native and European culture.
His reform of the educational system recquired
1. A REVOLUTION IN METHODS OF TEACHING
- so that learning could become rapid, pleasant and complete. Teachers should "follow in the footsteps of the nature" /= pay attention to the mind of the child and the way he/she learns/.
Books: The Great Didactic
The School of Infancy /for mothers/
2. TO TEACH CHILDREN LATIN
- so to make European culture available to all children. He was against pedantic methods that were inefficient, he prefered teaching about things than about grammar.
Book: The Gate of Languages Unlocked
- it was a textbook describing useful facts about the world in both Latin and Czech, it became famous and translated into a number of European and Oriental languages.
II. Comenius believed in THE REFORM OF THE WHOLE HUMAN SOCIETY THROUGH EDUCATION.
For instance he was invited to England /the outbreak of English Civil War forced him to leave/, and to Sweden - to help reform schooling.
In Sweden he developed a philosophical system of PANSOPHY - he was looking for a basic principle by which all knowledge could be harmonized and wished
for universal education and knowledge among men and nations.
After the Peace of Westphalia /1648/ he lived in Poland.
Book: The Visible World in Pictures
- for two centuries it became a model of the European illustrated schoolboks. /Pictures, Latin and native language sentences./
Book: Didactica Opera Omnia
- a collection of his books on education
Book: Consultaion
- he devoted his remaining years to complete this great work
Book: The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart
- a describtion of both his despair and his hope and joy written during his early years of exile
after the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War and the effort of the emperor Ferdinad II to re-Catholicize Bohemia.

A nebo by šlo ten text hodit do Wordu, ale je fakt, že pakt bychom nevěděli, že chcete tisknout.

Kvůli tisku to asi vskutku nebylo.Reagovala jsem, aby si někdo nemyslel, že jsem pod anonymousem schovaná já a začínám pošťuchovat.Takže nevím proč to sem někdo dal.
