SEZER THE NEW PRESIDENT

When Ahmet Necdet Sezer sworn to be the 10th President of Turkey today, (16 May, 2000) Reuters' news headlines was alerting in red showing time as 15:02. It is interesting to note that Suleyman Demirel, the 9th President has finished his term just before the fullmoon in Scorpio. (He was born Nov 11 1924) During the time of oath, the Moon was exactly crossing over Turkey' s Sun and MC for Ankara at 28 Gemini, a degree apart Turkey's Moon. Nice mutual happenings indeed!

Mr. Sezer was born September 13, 1941, in Afyon, his birthhour is still unknown to us, his chart shows more mutability than fixity while Mr. Demirel had Saturn conj with Sun and Mercury in Scorpio. Could this chart be a timely symbol for the prevailing major changes in Turkey ? I think yes. Moreover, Mr. Sezer has a close Jupiter-Sun square (He was chosen while Uranus trining his Jup) and his Mars opposes Turkey's Mercury-Saturn conjunction in Libra, and we cannot ignore his Pluto squares Turkey's Sun. These powerful contacts can indicate the upcoming trends in Turkish politics even his position does not give him full authority, his recent post as a president of the Supreme Court will facilitate to implement major alterations in the Constitution which was set after military regime in 1983. It is also interesting that he was elected under Sun-Jupiter conjunction (he has Sun-Jup contact) and transiting Sun has just opposed Turkey's Jupiter in Scorpio, yesterday.

The chart for his oath gives MC 28 Gemini, Asc 28 Virgo and transit Mercury is approaching to Neptune in Aquarius. Bearing this in mind, we cannot overlook Neptune transit square Turkey's Sun. A nice heavenly symbol which can show that he will be the major catalyst for changes in the Constitution with Turkey's strong membership aspirations during the next decade. Additionally, Mr. Sezer can be seen as a natural product of the current Jupiter-Saturn conjunction for Turkey. During his term, after Demirel's Saturn, (Demirel was graduated from Technical University as a civil engineer, Mr Sezer studied Law again a Jupiterian realm) Jupiter will be much highlighted.

A further note is that Asc/Mc midpoint for this chart is exactly conjoins with Jupiter-Neptune, a planetary pair which I suppose closely related with Turkey's history. (I gave several examples of this in Astrological Association's Plymouth Conference in Aug, 1999)

Mr. Sezer has several noteworthy transits in the next couple of years. (His progressed Moon has just entered in the sign of King, Leo) He will have Pluto-Sun square during 2002 and 2004 and will face Saturn square 2002. Turkey also will have Sun-Jup Semisquare in the same period. We also need to stress that Uranus will be opposing Sun/Moon midpoint (2003-2004) and MCp Semisquare to Sun/Moon in these years. Finally, Solar return with Mars for Jul 1 2000, will hit his progress Mars. This eclipse will also be highlighted close on Turkey's Asc and Pluto in Cancer.
